Lore & Background

Beyond the immediate war, this era explores themes of legacy and mortality. The death of Optimus Prime remains one of the most iconic moments in robot fiction, symbolizing the end of an idealistic age. Conversely, the transformation of Megatron into Galvatron by Unicron represents a descent into pure madness and tyranny. The story concludes with the defeat of Unicron and the establishment of Rodimus as the new leader, guiding the surviving factions toward an uncertain but hopeful future after Cybertron is left in ruins or abandoned, rather than immediately rebuilt.

In Their Own Story

The sky above Cybertron bleeds violet as Unicron's maw looms, a planet-sized nightmare swallowing the stars. Through the debris field of shattered metal and dying light, Rodimus Prime stands defiant amidst the wreckage, his armor scorched by plasma fire but his optics burning with a terrifying resolve. In his hand rests the Matrix, heavy with the soul of Optimus Prime, while behind him echoes the final, fading scream of his predecessor. Above, Galvatron's fusion cannon charges, casting a sickly green glow over the chaos. There is no moment for mourning; the fate of all mechanical life hangs on a razor's edge, and only the raw courage of this new generation can cut it loose.

Reader's Guide

The saga ignites when Decepticons ambush an Autobot transport in Earth orbit, triggering a cataclysmic space duel between Optimus Prime and Megatron. Both leaders fall mortally wounded; as Optimus passes the Matrix to Ultra Magnus, Megatron is ejected into the void, only to be reconstructed by Unicron as the twisted tyrant Galvatron.

Galvatron returns to Cybertron to crush Starscream's brief, incompetent usurpation of power. With the Decepticons now under Galvatron's iron fist and the Autobots driven off-world to Earth, Ultra Magnus struggles to hold the line. Unicron, the planet-eater, demands a weapon from his new minions to destroy the Autobots, but Galvatron's rebellion sparks a three-way war between Autobot survivors, Decepticon loyalists, and Unicron's mindless horde.

The climax erupts within Unicron's metallic gut. Rodimus Prime, having inherited the Matrix after Ultra Magnus falls in battle on Earth, confronts the chaos-bringer directly. Channeling the collective wisdom of past leaders through the Matrix, Rodimus unleashes a blinding energy that destroys Unicron from the inside out. The survivors emerge to find Cybertron scarred but healing, with Rodimus accepted as the new Prime, steering the war into an uncertain yet hopeful new era.
